Panama Canal Cruises
Panama Canal Cruises are a great selection for group cruises or for couples looking for a singular cruise vacation experience. Panama Canal cruises aren't exactly a strong destination selection for a family cruise involving young children, because the calendar does not usually coincide with school break time for the kids.
10 Night Trips or More
This trip commemorates the ingenuity that Americans are known for and should be on every cruiser's list of 'must do'. You can select a 10 day itinerary which is roundtrip from Florida. This itinerary is offered by Princess Cruises year round and is an excellent option for those who want to experience a Panama Canal cruise but don't have time to take a full transit cruise that would last 14 to 18 days. A full transit itinerary will start at one US coast and end at the other, visiting wonderful Caribbean and Mexican ports along the way. These full transit cruises usually use San Diego and Los Angeles as their west coast bases, but on occasion they can be booked to go further up the coast to end or start in San Francisco or Vancouver. Holland America is known for the longest of these trips lasting up to 20 days.
All the major cruise lines that populate the Alaskan waters in summer such as Princess Cruises, Holland America, Celebrity Cruises, Royal Caribbean Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Lines, and Carnival Cruises, will offer at least one or two Panama Canal cruise itineraries in Spring and again in the Fall as that is how they move their fleet from their home in the Caribbean to Alaska for the Summer and then back again in the Fall.
Small Ships Get Into the Act
The last few years, in order to keep offering something new to their regular passengers the small ship lines of Oceania Cruises, Azamara Cruises, and Regent Seven Seas have provided a few select Panama Canal cruise sailings during the winter months since Europe, their usual sailing arena is too cold. Crystal Cruises also likes to offer this destination on special occasion during the winter months. When the small ship cruise lines do put this itinerary into their cruise calendar they get booked up very fast, so be sure to plan ahead if you wish to enjoy this fabulous part of the world on a small ship. We have the best rates, so check with us, ALWAYS, to assure you are getting the best value.
The Weather Factor
Whether on a big ship or small, we prefer the Winter or Spring sailings if you are going for a full transit as the weather is perfect at either time. The Fall sailings occur while the hurricane season is still a factor in the weather. Since the 10 night sailings are year round there are many months of perfect weather to be enjoyed along that itinerary.
